Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

Do you publish a catalog?
To keep prices affordable and our selection up to date, we do not offer a printed catalog. Instead, our website features our full, current product lineup. Browse anytime at www.cookietins.com.

Do you have a retail location?
No. To keep costs low, we operate exclusively online.

Product & Usage

Are your tins food safe?
Yes. All of our tins are safe for direct food contact right out of the box, except for Powder Coated Buckets.

Can I wash the tins before using them?
We don’t recommend it. Washing can start oxidation (rusting). Our tins are ready to use as-is.

Can I bake in your tins?
No. Our tins are designed for storage, not baking. High heat can damage coatings and seams may leak. We do offer bakeable liners for select sizes—just be sure to place them on a baking sheet.

Are your tins dishwasher safe or weatherproof?
No. Tins are not dishwasher safe and may rust over time if exposed to the elements.

Can your tins be recycled?
Yes! Our tins are made of steel and are recyclable. You might also consider donating them for reuse in schools or community programs.

Sizing & Fit

How are tin sizes measured?
Measurements reflect the longest point on the outside of the tin and are approximate.

What does “1 lb. tin” mean?
This is an older industry standard based on fruitcake weight. It doesn’t necessarily reflect how much your product will fit.

What size tin do I need for cookies?
Cookie sizes vary widely, so there’s no universal standard. As a general guide:

  • ~12 cookies (3" size): Size 3 or 115 tin
  • 2–3 dozen cookies: Size 5 tin
We recommend measuring your cookies and comparing them to our listed dimensions.

What size tin fits a cake?
A standard 10" bundt or tube cake typically fits well in a Size 5 or 5C tin.

Can I use your tins for fudge?
Yes. Many customers pour fudge into liners placed inside the tin. Lower-temperature recipes work best. As a rough guide:

  • Size .5 tin: ~1 lb. of fudge
  • Size 1 tin: ~2 lbs. of fudge
Results may vary depending on your recipe.

Accessories & Options

Do I need a plastic liner?
Not necessarily—it’s optional. Many customers use liners for a cleaner look or to separate multiple products.

Can I layer products using padded tops?
Yes! Padded tops can be used for cushioning or layering.

Will your liners and accessories fit tins from other stores?
Usually not. Many discount tins don’t follow standard sizing, so compatibility may vary.

What is a heat shrink band?
A heat shrink band is a tamper-evident plastic seal (like on a mayonnaise jar). Apply it with a heat gun or even a hair dryer for a secure, professional finish.
